Keeping your cool at your party

Once you’ve made your decision to host a party, don’t think it will just magically come together. Start early and break things down into steps so planning is not a last minute panic. Then on the day you can enjoy the party itself just as much as your guests. A happy host goes a long way to ensure happy guests.

Before the party

Give yourself about 12 weeks all up so things can be organised without too much stress. Read through our general tips and your chosen party theme as you work through this checklist.

During the party

It’s very tempting to drink and be merry in your own home, you don’t have to drive home for a start, but people don’t like to stick around when they see the host has become a blathering mess.

Moderate yourself and focus on keeping other people’s glasses filled more than your own and you instantly become the perfect charismatic host.

You will want to remember how good your party was yourself. Leave the cringing and trawling through Insta or Facebook the next morning to your guests.

You’ll also make better judgments if unexpected issues arise – e.g. someone has an accident and needs help, or a grumpy neighbour knocks at your door.
